Custom Orthotics – Care for Your Feet

At Ryde Podiatry we utilise Cad-Cam Orthotics who have been the market leader in orthotic technology since 1998. They are an Australian company that has to date manufactured over 150,00 pairs of orthotics for podiatrists all around Australia. Our orthotics are made of premium grade EVA ( a synthetic rubber product) and manufactured using our own in-house Australian developed software.

We are leaders in our field

Even though podiatry in Australia is very well developed compared to other countries, Cad-Cam found the the current technologies employed were sadly lacking in what they could provide. This lead us to develop our own software, in conjunction with leading podiatrists in the country, like Ryde Podiatry, that would provide podiatrists with a “better toolbox” in order to prescribe more accurate and varied solutions for a greater range of foot and biomechanical problems in patients.

Why our software produces better results

We developed our orthotic manufacturing software using the non-weight bearing technique because it is considered by leading podiatrists to be of benefit in capturing the integral shape of the foot. Orthotis made from weight bearing techniques have the stresses and strains that causes the patient discomfort in the first place built in to themand do not reflect the true shape and position of the foot once these pressures are alleviated.

Our software provides the ability for the podiatrist to control both the forfoot and rearfoot producing very accurate and comfortable prescription orthotics. Our software incorporates techniques that are still very much ahead of it’s peers.

At Ryde Podiatry we also utilise 3 dimension scanning

Ryde Podiatry uses the FotoScan 3D digital scanner to take the 3D picture required to build the custom orthoses for the patient. Our software the uses the 3D file it creates in a unique way in order to position the foot more acurately to the podiatrist’s requirements. Our unique method has been specially developed to position the image of the foot correctly, regardless of where the foot is in 3D space in relation to the camera, which is critical to achieving the most accurate outcome for the manufacturing process of the orthotic.

The reason this scanner was selected over many others is that it enables us to scan the foot in the non weight bearing position which is critically important. Most other scanners, for ease of operation, are designed to scan in a weight or semi weight bearing position. This captures and build back in the existing muscle strains and deformities – problems which require you to see the podiatrist in the first place. By using a non weight bearing scan the podiatrist can then set the foot up in the correct skeletal position in order to correct the problems causing the pain more successfully.

The FotScan 3D is a unique scanning technology that also delivers precise, full colour 3D digital images of the plantar surface of the foot. We use these images at the lab to identify particular problems which the podiatrist also wants us to address. This is unique to the labaratory as we believe the information presented on the photograph is critically important to making a better high end product for dispensing to you the patient. Every other lab uses files which limit the accuracy of the final product.

The FotoScan 3D scanner uses stereophotographic or “white Light” technology to capture a precise 3D image of the object being scanned. Scanning takes less then a second and the data it generates is accurate to within 0.5 mm.

The ideal solution for plantar scanning and orthotic manufacture.
